Malaysia: Woman alleges rape over nude pictures

September 13, 2007

Kota Kinabalu - A local woman claimed her former boyfriend raped her after she agreed to meet him at a hotel here to retrieve near nude pictures of her the latter had taken when they were still an item.

The 25-year-old said the incident took place when she went to meet the 32-year-old salesman in March this year.

She claimed that earlier while in Brunei, she received a phone call from him that he has pictures of her only in her underwear and that if she wanted them, she had to come here.

Worried that the images would be misused, she agreed to meet him at a hotel here about 11pm on March 12.

When they were in the room, the man told her to take off her clothes if she really wanted the pictures.

At first she refused but she did so later after being convinced by the man and they allegedly had sex thereafter. Later, the man just left her without ever handing over the so-called pictures.

City Police Chief, ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria said the woman, who has moved to Miri, claimed the man tried using the same approach until about August to lure her back.

The woman, who could not take it anymore, lodged a report on Sept 3.

Ahmad Sofi said the suspect was detained at Kepayan Ridge at about 1am on Tuesday, adding police are looking at framing investigations under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
