A Perth man being held in prison in northern Thailand has been tested to see if he fathered a child with a 16-year-old girl.

Christopher Ronald White, 47, has been accused of serially sexually molesting the teenager over a four year period.

The teenager gave birth to the baby at a hospital in Chiang Mai a few days ago, but the baby died shortly after being delivered from a suspected blood disorder.

Despite the tragedy, police went ahead with blood and DNA comparisons to check if White is the father.

If the test is positive, he could face charges on child sex that carry a life sentence in jail.

White was arrested a week ago after the teenager accused him of sexually abusing her from the age of 12.

Police seized 35 DVDs during the arrest, including some which depict foreigners engaged in sex with minors, but so far the authorities say none of the film includes White or his alleged victim.
