The local press in the mainly Buddhist nation has been in a frenzy in recent
weeks over the sudden spread of pornographic images by phone after the mother
of a pop singer spotted a photograph of her daughter sent to a mobile.
"Which countries produce the pornographic films? Not poor countries," Hun Sen
told graduate medical students.
"They are rich countries. And then the poor countries are the ones that suffer
from it."
Minister of women's affairs Ung Kantha Phavy earlier this month said while the
government is powerless to monitor what images people are sending each other by
phone, it should shut down indecent websites by blocking Internet service
providers.
Hun Sen said the first step rested with countries producing smut.
"If we want to eliminate the pornographic images, first the countries that make
the films must stop producing the pornographic movies," Hun Sen said.
"This is a danger for our society," he said, adding that pornography could lead
to human trafficking and help spread Aids.
In February Hun Sen ordered that pornographic magazines be removed from
newsstands, arguing they too posed a danger.
