'China dolls' in Malaysia on valid passes, say police

Police are finding their hands tied in acting against the "China dolls" offering their favours for a fee to elderly men in the Manjung district.

Many of the women, from China's Foo Chow province, claimed they were meeting old friends on valid social visit passes.

District deputy police chief Deputy Superintendent G. Selvakumar, when contacted today, said investigating the "China dolls"' activities was difficult given the nature of arrangements between them and their clients.

Investigation papers on such cases to the deputy public prosecutor's office were often returned marked "NFA" (no further action) for lack of evidence. Selvakumar said police were working closely with the local authority on the problem.

"Most of the time, there is insufficient evidence to prosecute those arrested," he said.

He added that some of the women had been deported but this had not curbed such activities.

Selvakumar said police had recommended last year that the local council revoke the licence of a restaurant in Jalan Kampung Selamat where the women gathered for dinner every evening.
