Malaysia: Porn VCD culprits bolder

Kota Kinabalu - The culprits behind the distribution of pornographic film materials in the State appear to be getting more desperate. They are now displaying more local elements on their VCD covers to attract buyers.

Some 500 pieces of such VCDs confiscated by the police here on Saturday were found using name covers like Gadis Tawau, Gadis Tenom, Gadis Labuan, Gadis Keningau, Gadis Tanjung Aru, KL Sex & Dog, Made in Georgetown and RTM Girls, among others.

Confirming the seizure here Monday, City Police Chief ACP Azizan Abu Taat said it was made following a tip-off in the morning.

He said a police team found the VCDs kept in a plastic bag inside a car belonging to a 26-year-old local man that was parked in front of a hotel, near the KFC outlet in Kampung Air, here, at about 11 .50am.

The suspect was detained to facilitate further investigations, he added.

Azizan said investigations revealed that the seized VCDs, estimated to have a market value of RM10,000, were about to be sold to illegal VCD vendors operating along the five-foot ways in and around here at RM2 per piece.

He warned illegal VCD vendors in the city to stop their activities at once or face the consequences.

Meanwhile, city police believe they have solved 10 cases of housebreaking, theft and armed robbery reported here recently with the arrests of seven Filipinos in Inanam, near here, over the weekend.

Azizan said the men, aged 20-30s, belonging to two separate but linked theft gangs, were nabbed in three raids conducted by police separately in the said area from Friday to Sunday.

This included at a kongsi at a construction site in Kolombong, Inanam, he said, adding nine pieces of pawnshop receipts, including three from goldsmiths, one handphone trade-in receipt and a key, were also seized to facilitate further investigations.

Investigations revealed four of the suspects were members of one of the gangs, while the other three belonged to another. Each of the gangs had only four members.

Azizan said police were now looking for the remaining fourth member and leader of the second gang, identified as a 30-year-old ex-convict, Hussin @ Ayub Akup, who is still at large. Hussin had been in-and-out of jail four times, he added.

He urged those having information on his whereabouts to contact the city police or the nearest police station immediately.
