Prostitution works in movie houses in the Philippines
November 1, 2004
Some say that if you need a fast buck all you have to do is enter in one of at
least three movie houses showing rated R flicks and money will come your way.
According to a Sun.Star Davao source, there are three movie houses in downtown
Davao where prostitution thrives.
Two can be found along a busy city street and one inside a shopping mall.
Nineteen-year-old Chester (true name withheld) said he frequents the movie
house along Claveria on weekends since it is when there are many movie viewers.
Chester said he usually stay at the lobby first and scout for possible
customers. He said he could find one by looking at them eye to eye.
Asked what happens next, Chester said he usually have a little chat with his
prospective customer and invites him to take a seat.
It was learned that many of those who frequent these cinemas are males who
wanted to have sex with males.
Chester said they first negotiate for the amount his customer will pay him
after his "services". He said his charge varies on the services he would
render.
Chester said many of his customers would want to do it right there inside the
movie house.
In shopping malls, negotiation usually take place outside the movie house. When
the prostituted person and the customer comes to an agreement they then proceed
inside the cinema and do their thing there.
But sometimes, Chester said, persons looking for "fun" will just have to stand
at the back of cinema's orchestra and wait for somebody to approach him or her.
Asked if cinema operators are not doing anything about it, Chester said it is
not allowed by the management but somehow tolerates it by not doing something
to stop it.
