American expelled for sexual harassment on Mindoro governor
October 27, 2004
An American male was expelled from the Philippines immediately upon arrival
here after a Filipina provincial governor accused him of sexually harassing her
on the plane, airport officials said on Wednesday.
Josephine Sato, governor of Mindoro Island near Manila, complained to the
Philippine Airlines plane crew that the American man, in his mid-50s, had
groped her as she made her way back to her seat from the lavatory.
The crew forwarded the complaint to airport police who detained the man at
Manila airport. The man said he mistook the governor for his wife.
No charges were filed but the man was put on the next plane out and was
permanently barred from the country.
