Man arrested on Thai sex slave charges

A Briton has been arrested on suspicion of child abuse after allegedly keeping a teenage Thai boy as his sex slave, according to Thai police and reports.

The 41-year-old was arrested at his riverside flat in the northern city of Chiang Mai where he had allegedly abused the boy from a poor hill tribe community for more than two years, the child told police.

Police said they found more than 30 items of pornographic material at the flat.

"He has been charged with sexual abuse of an underage child," police Lieutenant General Panupong Singhhara Na Ayutthaya said.

The man initially offered the boy, now aged 14, financial support after his parents were jailed for drug offences, police said.

The man faces up to 10 years in jail if found guilty of child sex abuse.
