'Stunning' Thai go-go dancer quits prostitution to become pornstar

This stunning Thai go-go dancer was once the undisputed superstar of Rainbow 1 in Nana Plaza. Her name is Mot and Mango Sauce reader Jim snapped this picture back in 1999.

A veteran of over 60 visits to Thailand, Jim beleives that Mot is the prettiest girl he’s ever seen and a genuinely nice person too – an unlikely combination which probably makes her unique.

Sadly, just twenty-four hours after this photo was taken, Mot was hit by a car and seriously injured. It was another six months before she could return to her chromium pole at Rainbow 1.

The physical scars had healed but Jim sensed that her old confidence was gone. She told him "I no more beautiful" and confided that she would now do "anything" to make money.

A few months later, Mot vanished from the scene and Jim lost touch with her. Recently, however, he spotted her again on a website called 88square.com.

Now going by the name "Vivian Lin" she has, it seems, embarked upon a glittering new career as a porn star.

Good carrer move?

Some would argue that entering the porn industry might not be the best career choice. However in Mot's case it would seem that working as a model for adult pictures is likely better than working as a go-go dancing prostitute.

Prostitution in Thailand is illegal, although so is porn, but nonetheless both are almost systematically overlooked by Thai authorities. A recent case highlighted this issue when Natt Chanapa was summoned by the Thai police for her appearance in a hardcore porn movie (see related links at right).

Just as the Thai police tend to overlook prostitution, they also seem to allow nude modeling and photography to slide by. It was Natt's appearance in the movie that caused the uproar not the many nude photo shoots she had done, so Mot may be safe in her new career.

Moreover one must consider the perils of working in the sex industry as a prostitute. Foremost would be the chances of contracting HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases. But other dangers rear their ugly head from time to time like girls being beaten by customers and even killed.

Sabai, sabai

Mot's career in pornography may also afford her a more comfortable lifestyle, monetarily and for her day to day life. Gone are her long nights gyrating away on a stage till 2 am for drunk middle aged sex tourists. So too is the requirement for her to go with these same customers for sex.

Photoshoots and modelling jobs more likely happen during normal working hours and are certainly more comfortable for her than the aforementioned work.

All in all it could be a job that could bring her international stardom, a long-term paying career and keep her safe from the perils of Thailand's prostitution industry.
