The 33-year-old Indonesian woman admitted prostitution, but the 31-year-old
Bangladeshi man denied living off her earnings or allowing her to use his flat
for vice.
He was convicted of the first charge, but was acquitted of operating a vice den
out of his flat.
They were caught in July after police got a tip-off and sent an undercover
officer posing as a client, the Lower Criminal Court heard.
The woman originally worked as a maid, but escaped and went to live with an
Indian couple, said the prosecution.
Her Indian woman friend guided her to the flat of the Bangladeshi man, who gave
her shelter in return for sex.
He then agreed that she could operate as a prostitute from the flat, charging
BD6 per client, said the prosecution.
But the defendant said he had nothing to do with the woman's prostitution.
Police raided the flat and arrested both of them. The baker tried to escape but
was caught, the court heard.
