She admitted working as a prostitute and was sentenced to a year in jail by the
Lower Criminal Court.
Her 20-year-old sister was also jailed for two years after she was found guilty
of depending on the illicit activities of her sister and using her apartment
for vice. The brother-in-law was acquitted of the same charges.
"My difficult financial position after I got divorced forced me to take up
prostitution to earn money," said the 19-year-old in a statement to police.
"That day, I received a telephone call from a man who did a favor for me and he
said he was sending a man to me.
"He asked me to give him a good time and said he would send me the money.
"I agreed and arranged to meet the man in Tubli.
"He arrived in his car and I took him to my sister's flat in Jidali.
"I received BD80 from him and took off my clothes. I was in my underwear when
the vice squad raided the house and arrested us."
She said she and her sister were forced into the vice trade by their mother and
their husbands.
"My ex-husband, my mother and my sister's husband used to encourage us - the
two sisters - to practice prostitution," she said.
"They acted as our pimps and used to collect money from our customers.
"Lately they were bringing customers to us in the flat where we were arrested."
She said she gave money to her sister to cover expenses and claimed her
brother-in-law, who was acquitted, used the flat for prostitution.
However, her sister and brother-in-law had pleaded not guilty to the charges
against them.
A vice squad officer who testified in the case said the girl would charge BD80
to BD100 in exchange for sleeping with her clients.
He added that her sister would take a BD20 cut for letting her use the flat.
The 19-year-old prostitute was caught when the undercover officer called for
backup as she started to undress.
She tried to flee in her underwear after he opened the door for his colleagues,
but was caught by plainclothes policemen.
Her 20-year-old elder sister was in the kitchen and was also arrested.
At the time her brother-in-law was apparently asleep in the bedroom with his
children.
"My sister came to my flat and told me she was with a man," said the
20-year-old, who was jailed for two years.
"She said she wanted to bring him inside my house because she had something to
discuss with him.
"My husband was sleeping in the bedroom with the children.
"I allowed my sister to bring the man inside the house without the knowledge of
my husband and I went into the kitchen.
"I saw some money and my sister's mobile on the table inside the kitchen.
Raided
"It was then that the vice squad raided my flat and arrested us."
The 20-year-old claimed her sister had been encouraged to take up prostitution
by another Bahraini woman.
"My sister had connections with another Bahraini woman who was involved in
immoral activities, along with her mother, and both of them influenced my
sister by encouraging her to do the same," she said.
"I reported this matter to the police because this mother and daughter
encouraged my sister to go to furnished apartments and hotels to practice
prostitution - especially a flat in Zinj."
The 19-year-old's brother-in-law, who works as a hotel security guard,
testified that she had been working as a prostitute.
However, he denied having any involvement in her activities.
"My wife's sister practises prostitution and sometimes gives money to my wife
too," he said.
"I plead not guilty to all the charges levelled against me. "I was sleeping,
when she was arrested, but later on I came to know that she brought a man to
have sex with her for BD80 and was caught semi-naked in the living room."
