July 6, 2005

Muzaffarnagar - The police on Monday filed chargesheet against Ali Mohammed, the main accused in the Imrana rape case, with details of the victims's recorded statement and accounts of more than 12 witnesses, including her family members.

The chargesheet also included Imrana's medical report and her statement recorded before the magistrate as also those of her brothers, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, police said.

Ali Mohammad, the 28-year-old's father-in-law whom she has accused of raping her, was denied bail by the judicial magistrate on June 27 and is in Judicial custody till July 14.

Meanwhile, the Shariat court, which has asked by the Islamic seminary Darul-Uloom of Deoband to decide the future relationship of the victim with her in-laws, is yet to start proceedings in the case as Imrana and her family members are yet to turn up before it.

The case had hit the headlines when a local community panchayat passed a verdict asking the victim to treat her husband as her son and banning her from living with him following the alleged rape.
