India bans four X-rated TV channels
May 11, 2005
New Delhi - Continuing its drive against pornography on television, the
government on Tuesday said it has banned transmission of four channels.
The channels that were found to be violating provisions on content are -
Bluekiss, Bluekiss Express, Bluekiss Promo and TB1-XXX.
"Some cable operators and DTH network were reportedly transmitting satellite
channels which are telecasting programmes that are against good taste and
decency and likely to adversely affect public morality. The Central government
has prohibited their transmission," a release said.
A few weeks back the government had banned a channel 'Cineworld' for a month
for telecasting pornography.
An order prohibiting transmission and retransmission of the television channels
has been forwarded to India Broadcasting Foundation and all cable operators and
MSOs, the release added.
This order has been sent to all chief secretaries, director general of police
of all states and Union territories and also district magistrates of all
districts who are authorised officers to implement this decision under the
Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act 1995.
