Anara Gupta may have to face lie detector test
January 16, 2005
Jammu - Former Miss Jammu Anara Gupta, recently cleared by forensic experts of
charges that she had appeared in a porn film, might have to undergo a polygraph
test to prove her innocence.
The Jammu and Kashmir police had filed a case of immoral trafficking against
Anara after claiming she had appeared in a porn film distributed on video CDs,
but forensic experts had Jan 5 said she was not the woman in the blue movie.
Police officials said she would have to undergo the polygraph or lie detector
test in New Delhi so that revelations she had reportedly made during
interrogation could be probed further.
Anara's family is on the other hand fighting a battle to redeem her reputation.
Her mother Raj Rani has moved the Supreme Court and petitioned the National
Commission for Women (NCW) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC),
alleging that Anara was subjected to torture to extract a false confession from
her.
Anara was picked up from her house here Oct 24 and kept in police custody
without a case being registered till Nov 3.
The case of immoral trafficking was registered Nov 4 and she was made to appear
before media and make a confessional statement of her role in a porn film. She
accused cable TV operator Narinder Kohli of sexually exploiting and
blackmailing her.
During police interrogation, she had allegedly named several influential people
as her tormenters.
But she retracted her statement Dec 6 and the sequence of events took a
different turn.
