India: Cops find sexual content on tape, seal landlord’s house

Pune - A day after video camera and cassettes were seized from landlord Mohan
Kulkarni’s residence, the police on Friday said one of the cassettes contained
pornographic content, which involved him. They said it appears to have been
shot a few years ago.
However, they clarified that they were yet to investigate into the matter.
Kulkarni was arrested on Tuesday for using web cameras to spy on girls who were
living as paying guests in his bungalow. He has been remanded to police custody
through Saturday.
The police, late on Thursday night after conducting the search operations, also
sealed his bungalow at Navi Peth.
They could not do it earlier as his 85-year-old mother was staying there.
The police decided to seal the bungalow after Kulkarni’s mother was shifted to
his brother’s house on Thursday evening.
Earlier, Kulkarni had said that though his brother stayed in the city, he had
no whereabouts of him as they were not in contact.
Police said they found out his brother’s address by getting hold of his
telephone number from the directory.
The case acquired larger dimensions on Saturday, with the police announcing the
arrest of a second person in the case. Video cassettes showing sexual
intercourse between prime accused Mohan Kulkarni and his co-accused, a
30-year-old housemaid, were seized from his residence.
The police, who conducted a second search operation at Kulkarni's residence
since his arrest early this week, also reported the seizure of a handycam, a
computer, Rs 5.92 lakh in cash and several pornographic video cassettes
featuring Kulkarni and his maid.
Kulkarni (a former Telco employee), and the maid, Manjushri Dilip Kotkar were
produced in a city court on Saturday and remanded to police custody till
January 20.
Judicial magistrate first class Y B Dixit upheld public prosecutor D T Sonar's
argument that police custody was necessary to probe many angles of the case,
such as possible income from sale of pornographic material.
Kulkarni was arrested on Tuesday on charges of installing three web cameras in
the tubelight fixtures of rooms rented to outstation college girls in Pune.
