Sex clip: Cops probe portal, Palika sales

New Delhi - A team of Delhi Police Crime Branch today reached Mumbai to
investigate the sale and tansmission of the MMS clip involving two students of
Delhi Public School in a sexual act. A case was registered on Thursday night.
The team would be collecting the electronic data available with the portal,
Baazee.com, where the CD was being sold for Rs 125.
‘‘We have started our investigations and are questioning a number of people,
including sellers and purchasers,’’ said K K Vyas, Additional DCP, Economic
Offences Wing (EOW). The case was registered under sections 292 (sale of
obscene material) and 294 (obscene act in any public place to the annoyance of
others) of the IPC and Section 67 of the Information and Technology Act.
The police have said they would also question Alice Electronics of Kharagpur
who had placed the advertisement and the eight persons who had bought the CD. A
user registered with the auction site offered an item described as a ‘‘video
clip’’ for Rs 125 on November 27. Within two days, the company was notified by
other users and the clip was removed.
‘‘We’re based on the idea of sellers and buyers interacting directly without
our censoring what they do, but as soon as we knew the content of this
download, we took it down,’’ said Deepa Thomas, spokesperson for the company.
Bazee says it has guidelines against pornographic material among its terms and
conditions which every buyer and seller is required to sign. The user who put
up the download has since been ‘‘suspended’’, the portal said.
‘‘We have 70,000 listings a day. There is an adult and educational film section
but this was neither,’’ said Thomas.
While the portal is being questioned, the CDs were available even on Saturday
quite easily at Nehru Place and Palika Bazaar. In fact, the Miss Jammu-Anara
Gupta and DPS CDs are much in demand and available for anything between Rs 50
and Rs 125. ‘‘Though the DPS CD is only 2 minutes and 37 seconds in duration,
it costs as much as a movie,’’ confesses a teenage boy selling the CDs.
