Murali wants CBI probe into sex scandal case
December 13, 2004
Palakkad - The popularity of the Oommen Chandy government in Kerala has hit
rockbottom in the wake of sexual abuse charges against Industries Minister P K
Kunhalikutty, senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan said on Sunday and
demanded a CBI probe into the entire episode to clear all doubts.
An inquiry by CBI would help remove doubts in the minds of the people regarding
the case, Muraleedharan, who was also the former KPCC President, told reporters
at Mundoor near here.
He said he expected the KPCC executive meeting scheduled for December 22 to
discuss this and other issues that had dented the image of the ruling UDF.
Muraleedharan, son of senior Congress leader K Karunakaran, claimed the
popularity of the UDF was so low that the coalition would not get even 25 seats
if Assembly elections were held now.
He said former Chief Minister A K Antony resigned his post owning
responsibility for the UDF's pathetic performance in the Lok Sabha polls. The
situation did not improve in the three months after the take-over of Chandy, he
added.
Muraleedharan said there should be coordinated efforts to activate the party
machinery from booth level to reverse the situation.
Chandy should initiate steps to revitalise the party by holding discussions
with senior leaders, he said.
