Ex-Miss Jammu caught for starring in a porn CD

Jammu - As a child, she had dreamt of becoming an IAS officer one day. But
Anara Gupta's life took an altogether different turn when she won the Miss
Jammu crown at the tender age of 15 on October 7, 2001.
Gupta, who turned 18 only two months ago, was arrested by the police last week
for her involvement in a pornographic CD racket involving top-notch businessmen
and politicians in the city.
At the police station here, Gupta, who was a minor when the CD was allegedly
shot, spoke about how the organiser of the Miss Jammu contest, Narinder Kohli,
had promised her a "break" in Bollywood and "motivated" her to act in an
alleged pornographic film when she was only 16. She said several of those who
"exploited" her were still roaming around freely.
"There is nothing left in beauty, it is a mere show," she said.
A fortnight of police interrogation, which began on October 24, has left her
tired but not defeated.
Gupta said she had always dreamt of making it big. "I wanted to achieve
something in life, but not like this."
She said after the "unwanted exposure" she received, it had become difficult to
face society. "I am stepping forward because I want all those who exploited me
punished, so that they do not repeat it with anyone else."
Determined to fight back, she said: "I won't leave Jammu and I'll fight to get
all that I have lost _ my prestige, my status and my education."
After leaving studies halfway in Std XII, Gupta got into modelling, doing stage
shows and acting in television serials.
"I will resume my studies and reach a stage where people will look up to me,"
she added.
The former Miss Jammu said, girls were being lured into pornography in the name
of modelling. "Fashion and beauty shows are a breeding ground for the sleaze
trade, the government should not allow locals to arrange such events," she
said, adding that there were many models involved in the trade but they did not
have the courage to come forward.
However, it is not easy to muster courage for something like that, she said,
adding that her entire family had been going through a difficult phase ever
since the case came to light.
Gupta's mother, who teaches in a government school in Katra, said her three
sons were in a state of shock. "It seems like our world has been shattered in
one stroke," she added. Gupta's elder brother Prince, who runs a shop here,
said the fight with the "rotten system’’ had just begun and they had a long way
to go.
