Indian pornstars get on top

'Be Indian, Buy Indian' when it comes to porn. A newfound lust for the
dark-skinned woman is fuelling a demand for desi pornstars not only within the
country, but also abroad.
The sale of locally made porn films and CDs have seen a spurt in recent times,
says a police officer dealing with economic offences in Uttar Pradesh.
According to him, the Chamiya series in which beautiful Indian woman are shown
performing various sexual acts, has become a rage in many parts of the state.
Other popular titles include Mr and Mrs Bollywood, Private Fantasies, Delhi
Babes, Saree Strippers, Agni Pushpam, Yamni and Ratree Milan. Even films made
years ago are staging a comeback. Looking Eyes, originally shot in Malyalam
some ten years back, has now been dubbed in Hindi due to incessant demand.
Interestingly, desi porn seems to have found a dedicated following in the West
as well. "To be honest, European girls look more like fresh ham, while the
women from India are far sexier," insists an NRI who watches porn regularly.
The Indian Diaspora is certainly at the center of the sleaze storm. Travellers
returning after visits to relatives abroad do so with a realisation that Indian
erotica scores over its foreign counterpart. The NRI interest has also helped
desi porn crossover. For example, Nasheela Shabab, a blue film recently shot in
India featured a British-Asian starcast.
There's no dearth of variety for those willing to pay the price. Like in
America or Europe, X-rated Indian films have begun exploring alternate
sexuality. But while 'straight' CDs cost as little as Rs 50, a gay title could
set the buyer back by as much as Rs 5,000.
Regional porn is picking up too. Indian Couple, an adult film in Bangla, has
become a bestseller among Bengalis living in Model Town, La Touché Road
and other areas of Lucknow.
The supply chain according to the police extends from Nepal via Thailand and
other East Asian countries.
While watching porn, selling it or allowing it to be viewed is a crime and
offenders can be charged under various sections of the Information technology
Act, The Indian Penal Code and the Indecent Representation of Women
(Prohibition) Act, very little appears to have been done to stem the smut glut.
Scores of vendors continue to sell books and CDs with titillating titles right
under the administration's nose.
Senior police officials admit the connivance of lower-level staff has more or
less blunted the purpose with which strict surveillance was set-up to curb the
trade of porn in Uttar Pradesh.
