Enter e-sleaze: Website spreads e-prostitution
August 20, 2004
I am a 22-year-old girl studying in a college in Bangalore. I am in need of
money. I can provide all types of services. I have to go home at nights, so
night service is not available. I can spare at the max two hours in a day. Guys
who are ready to spare 6000 bucks for this, write to me at xyz@yahoo.com with
your contact number. I won’t entertain any mail without the contact number.
Bangalore - That’s a thread posted in the website www.worldsexguide.com. It’s
stark, no-fuss tenor reverberates through the site owned by a Florida-based
company, throwing light into the new age "e-flesh trade" booming like spam in
several Asian cities, including Bangalore.
The members of the site, who use fictitious names and e-mail IDs, provide
detailed information on their experiences in these cities, pick-up spots like
bars, pubs and colleges, and the big question: how much to pay.
The faceless and impersonal technology may inspire netizens to brag about
paid-for-debauchery at the click of a mouse. But it seems that Bangalore, home
to 1.5 lakh software codewriters, has embraced the Net to feed its seamy
underbelly.
Since most of the e-mails seem to be from middlemen, a vital link in
cyberspace-driven prostitution, the authenticity of the information featured on
the site is not known. The site also features a flurry of e-mail addresses
which propose to offer such services across India.
"I have a gal to fulfil your desires in Sankey Tank Road. Rate Rs 11,000 per
night. If interested write to us at model–reqd@yahoo.com," says one.
The trade uses its lucre to induct fresh recruits.
"Aspiring models, actresses and gals who want to be a part of our group can
also write to us. Confidentiality assured,’’ the same e-mail goes on to say.
Also cottoning on to the Internet are upmarket swingers’ groups. One thread
speaks of an ‘Elite Nudist Club" in Bangalore.
"The club is for the cream class. Prior to enrolment, the club would screen the
candidates with its own measures to ensure only quality people," says the
thread shutting the door on the hoi polloi.
It adds, "Nude parties would be organised overnight during weekends with a
maximum of 10 members (males and females, five each). Parties would be split
according to the age-group and a member has the option to suggest his/her
preferences. For information contact benc@hotmail.com."
The site also specifies pick-up spots and rates categorised by age groups. In
Bangalore, the red-light areas mentioned in the threads include Indiranagar, a
dhaba in Channasandra, a club on St. Marks Road where the rates kick off from
Rs 2,500, and lodges in Sheshadripuram and Kalasipalayam.
"If you want a higher class, visit the best urban bar in Brigade Road. If you
want more details contact me at leeguy@rediff.com," says a thread
authoritatively.
These threads also warn that "some girls are greedy and so beware of flaunting
money." And oh yes – some threads suggest that in Bangalore, sex workers accept
cash in dollars.
