FIA is trying to end human trafficking
July 28, 2004
Islamabad - The additional secretary for the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics
Control, Abdul Rauf Chaudhry, has said that the government was trying to curb
human trafficking, which had brought a disgrace to Pakistan.
Mr Chaudhry said that a number of people who were involved in fleecing visa
seekers had been apprehended.
He was speaking at the inauguration of training courses for the law enforcement
agencies officials at the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) academy on
Tuesday.
He said that scanning machines and other equipment had been installed at
international airports and that the trained FIA immigration staff had played a
pivotal role in curbing human trafficking. He said that human trafficking was
an exploitative form of irregular migration, which was also in violation of the
migrant’s rights.
He said that these training courses aimed to create a liaison among the law
enforcement agencies working at national and provincial levels.
The International Organisation for Migration has arranged these courses and a
number of international trainers from the National Crime Squad, UK, and senior
officials from the law enforcement agencies are conducting the courses.
