Private eyes to keep watch on porn films
July 26, 2004
Hyderbad - Private eyes will soon keep tabs on films screened in theatres, to
check if they are being sexed up.
Detectives have been hired by the regional censor board as part of a
nation-wide campaign to check if the board regulations are being violated.
The name of the detective agency has been kept under wraps.
The detectives are required to watch 100 films per month. These will be
selected by the board and the detective agency has to produce a ticket as proof
of seeing the movie.
Once the detectives notice that an exhibitor is showing ‘sexy' scenes
interpolated into the movie, they go to the nearest police station and lodge a
formal complaint. Police can then seize the film, and a committee comprising
censor board officials and an assistant commissioner of police will compare the
film with the master copy.
Once it is proved that the film has been sexed-up, police will file a charge
sheet against the exhibitor, the cinema owner and the staff in a court of law.
The punishment for the crime attracts a three-year prison term and Rs 1 lakh
fine.
The interpolated scenes are normally being added in Malayalam and English
films, and the board is keeping a special watch on cinemas halls that screen
these films.
When contacted, censor board regional director T Vijay Kumar Reddy said the
board has already registered 10 cases against the erring cinema exhibitors. He
said several complaints of violations were also being received from different
quarters.
Reddy said every filmgoer was free to approach the police and lodge a complaint
if they notice interpolation or incisions in films.
