The report also urged immediate action to prevent agents from bringing girls to
the UAE and forcing them into prostitution.
According to the report, labourers working in certain sectors of economic
activity, such as construction, cleaning and maintenance, especially in small
to medium size companies are facing the problem of non-payment or delayed
payment of salaries.
Although the local Ministry of Labour takes action against erring employers, in
many cases this does not happen and the workers are left to fend for
themselves, says the report.
The report adds that workers who come to the UAE without proper immigration
clearance and are cheated by the agents who give them a completely different
copy of the contract with terms highly disproportionate to the actual agreed
terms with the employer.
The report reveals that many workers from India feel insecure in their jobs as
several of them are terminated from work at the whims and fancies of the
employer. Though one should not expect any job security in the UAE as seen from
an Indian angle, often the termination happens on flimsy grounds, against which
there is no protection.
The report has alerted the government to the problems of housemaids and girls
forced into prostitution. "A lot of complaints from house maids were received
by the mission and many were solved after its intervention. But the problem
still continues," says the report adding that lot of girls have been brought to
the country and forced into immoral activities by local touts.
