Qatar: 'Prostitution' case shelved

August 9, 2005

Doha - A court hearing the story of a married woman and her mother, both of whom were allegedly involved in prostitution, shelved the case, a daily Arabic newspaper reported.

The daily said that a Qatari man was told by his mother-in-law that his wife was cheating him. The woman was apparently jealous of her daughter, according to the paper.

The mother didn't like her daughter being "more desired" by customers, so she told her son-in-law about her alleged 'activities'.

The husband divorced his wife after verifying the truth, said the daily. The wife's father was in the jail, according to the paper.

The wife said in the court that her mother convinced her that prostitution was the easiest way of making "quick money", said the report.
