Actor Lee Kyong-young, 44, who was previously convicted for having sex with
teenage girl, was on Tuesday ordered to pay 50 million won in compensation for
mental damages. The Inchon District Court ruled that Lee and other three
defendants to pay 50 million won to the girl, identified as Lee, in the
compensation suit filed by the then-18-year-old girl and her family.
The court acknowledged the girl’s mental damage, saying, "The defendants
satisfied their sexual desires by luring the girl, an aspiring actress, with a
false promise that they would let her appear on screen, and it infringed on the
minor’s rights," in the ruling.
Lee was arrested on charges of having sex twice with the high school student in
Inchon in August 2001, saying he would let her make her acting debut in a movie
he was directing. He was sentenced to a 10-month suspended prison term and 160
hours of public service in October 2002.
Three other defendants included a screenwriter of a local broadcasting company
and a film director were also indicted for having sex with the girl several
times, saying they would make her a star.
The actor has also been under police investigation on suspicion of beating one
of his business partners in Ilsan, Kyonggi Province, on April 7.
