Investigators confiscated some 240 pieces of women's underwear, worth a combined
amount of over 600,000 yen, from the home of Yoshinori Omori, 54, in
Higashi-ku, Sapporo.
"I intended to launch door-to-door sales of women's underwear. If I was
successful in the business, I wanted to sell such items on the Internet," Omori
was quoted as telling investigators.
He confessed that he had stolen a large amount of women's underwear from
multiple retail stores on about 30 occasions between the end of March and early
May. He added that he had selected items of various sizes and colors to obtain
a well-balanced range of merchandise.
In the specific case over which he was arrested, Omori stole 13 items of
women's underwear, worth 32,000 yen, from a large-scale retail store in
Higashi-ku on May 7, local police said.
Last March, Omori closed his Toyohira-ku, Sapporo, shop, which sold expensive
imported bags, due to financial trouble. After subsequently spotting a person
shoplifting at a shopping mall in Higashi-ku, he came up with the idea of
stealing women's underwear from retail stores and selling the items to make a
living. (Mainichi)
