Exhibitionist eroggers expose their inhibitions in Japan
By Ryann Connell

Thanks to liberated attitudes and the Japanese language's lack of an "l," the
latest online fad in this country is erogs, erotic blogs, according to Asahi
Geino.
Blogs have been as hot in Japan in recent years as they have been anywhere else
on earth.
"Nobody is really sure exactly when blogs made it big in Japan. But one of the
prime driving factors in their popularity was the June 2002 release of Moveable
Type 2.2, a highly functional blogging software. From about the summer of last
year, there have been plenty of free blogging services pop up and now anybody
who uses the Internet knows what a blog is. One of the prime reasons blogs have
been so successful is that it's possible to have people leave their comments on
the site," Kyosuke, operator of Nikkan Erog (Daily Erog), a site that gives a
daily review of a new erotic blog, tells Asahi Geino.
Japan's biggest providers of free blogging services include Yahoo Japan and new
Pacific League franchise owner Rakuten, but towering above them all is
Livedoor, the company run by the country's man of the moment, Takafumi
"Horiemon" Horie. Livedoor, it seems, has also been instrumental in providing
the spark needed to generate the erog boom.
"Horiemon is pretty well known and he has no problem with allowing adult
content," Kyosuke says, noting why Livedoor has attracted by far the greatest
number of Japan's eroggers.
Erogging has became so hot in Japan, it has even inspired Erogsearch, a site
devoted entirely to tracking down erogs in a way similar to adult site fans may
currently Google for an ogle.
Erog, Kyosuke notes, is a word created in Japanese.
"They probably started because somebody thought their blog would attract
attention if they filled it with stuff that under-18s aren't allowed to look
at," the erog expert says.
"Eroggers, the name given to the mostly female participants who post saucy
pictures onto their erogs, are the hottest current new trend on the (Japanese)
Internet. While a lot of them may simply want somebody else to look at them in
an erotic situation, in my humble opinion, I'd say there are a lot of eroggers
who want people to look at them as 'real women," Kyosuke tells Asahi Geino. "I
think a lot of them like getting comments from male readers telling them about
how beautiful, or cute they are. Eroggers like the idea that there are guys out
there who find their looks attractive and desirable, or who want to make love
to them. These are things husbands or boyfriends may often feel but not
express. Erogs make it easy for people to write stuff they may otherwise be
embarrassed about saying out loud and they also allow for raw opinions from
others."
