Japan: Squeaky-clean hicks get dirty in soapland

It's soapland season and recent high school graduate hicks from the sticks are
pouring into Tokyo by the busload to make their dalliance debuts at the
legendary bubble brothels of the Yoshiwara red light district, according to
Shukan Taishu.
"We've had loads of country kids come into to use us over the past two or three
years. They all ask after our joint and they travel in groups of single men,"
the operator of a Tokyo imekura, where sex workers in fancy dress service
clients, tells Shukan Taishu. "We have at least one to two group reservations
from the country every month. I'd say about 40 percent of all our customers at
the moment come from the boonies, whether they visit here as individuals or as
part of a tour group."
Groups are normally about three or four guys, but can occasionally stretch
beyond 20, the men's weekly says.
"Nearly everybody who comes here is in their 20s or younger, so none of them
have a great deal of money on them," the imekura boss says. "Unlike customers
who already live in Tokyo, these guys have got to think about things like
travel expenses and accommodation on top of what it costs to partake in what we
have to offer. You often find they take late-night buses from their homes
because it's the cheapest way of getting to Tokyo."
This imekura is one of many that accept advance reservations from country
customers, which are often accompanied by offers to set up a place to stay
while they come to play.
More parsimonious country folk, though, take on what's being called the "Iron
Man Day Trip."
"They arrive in Tokyo at about 6 in the morning, then have a feed or a sauna
until we open at 10," the imekura boss says. "Once the day trippers have
finished their sessions, they've often got a lot of time on their hands before
they catch the night bus back home from Tokyo. They often spend that time
seeing the sights of the capital, like Roppongi Hills or Odaiba. But this is
only in their spare time and the prime reason for visiting the capital is only
ever sex."
Workers in the soapland brothels are pleased to see the country customers.
"Many of our customers tell us they're visiting a brothel for the first time.
It's not rare to have a customer who's never been out with a girl before. They
may struggle to maintain a conversation, but on the other hand, they're
generally pretty nice," an imekura worker tells Shukan Taishu. "Most of the
girls in our place enjoy their sessions with the guys from the countryside. And
nearly all of them come back here for second helpings."
Yukio Murakami, a writer specializing in Tokyo's netherworld, says he's not
surprised the capital attracts so many bumpkins for bumpin's.
"Most country areas in Japan lack places for the young people to hang out, so
things are really tough for guys in their teens and early 20s," Murakami tells
Shukan Taishu. "Low birthrate and rusting of industries across the country have
created a clear lack of young women in rural areas. This can be seen in the
number of fishing and farming villages struggling to find wives for the young
men living in them."
