Enterprising college girls hit the beds
By Ryann Connell

One of Tokyo's most successful hoteheru call girl businesses at the moment is a
service run by college coeds so classmates can make a decent living, according
to Shukan Post, Japan's biggest-selling weekly magazine.
"Young women from some of the country's best known universities strip down to
the raw to look after the customers. College coeds are in control of every
single aspect of the business. All the masseuses are college girls recruited by
classmates. Even the receptionists are all female university students," Shukan
Post hears from a man identified only as A-san, who claims to be a regular of
the establishment, referred to only as X.
X's receptionist explains how the service managed to be staffed entirely by
women still enrolled in university courses.
"We wanted a sex service for co-eds, controlled by coeds. You'd be surprised
how many female university students are out there turning tricks part-time at
brothels to get a little extra pocket money. They're almost constantly worrying
about health and hygiene risks, or being exposed to their boyfriends or
parents," the receptionist tells Shukan Post. "We wanted to rid them of those
anxieties, so pooled all our money and said to the girls, 'Now go out and give
it a try yourselves.' They picked up friends from school to work together, so
we had the added bonus of not needing to rely on talent scouts."
Gomez Yamada, author of "Fuzokuten no Keiei Shisutemu wa Muzukashikunai
(Whorehouse Operation Systems Are No Sweat)," says he's not surprised the
educated, erotic entrepreneurs are making yen by making men buck.
"Escort services like hoteheru don't have a storefront, so only need to
register with the police and they're literally in business. About the only
initial outlay they have to put out is to rent a room in some condo and put in
a desk and a chair. The biggest problem for a new sex business is finding
willing workers. But the coeds like those running X don't have to worry about
that. Nobody can find it as easy to start a sex business as them," Shukan Post
hears from Yamada, who has also penned "Fuzoku ni Manabu Bijinesu Keieigaku
(Business Economics You Can Learn From the Sex Industry).
"When I visited a top university in Tokyo the other day, I saw a notice board
with a message asking female students if they were interested in taking part in
the operation of a sex business. It's not quite a situation where the women are
saying, 'Well, everybody's doing it, so we should, too.' However, there are
probably many female university students who find a lucrative sex business job
more attractive than the drudgery of some shoddy part-time job."
