PCs replace pills to prevent pregnancies
August 26, 2004
You can safely do away with contraceptive pills, for your PC can now help you
to prevent pregnancy.
According to The Daily Mail, German researcher Dr Hubertus Rechberg, has
invented the machine called Lady-Comp which works by measuring women's
temperature on a daily basis to determine when she is most likely to get
pregnant.
The portable CD player sized machine is an improvement over Persona, the
British counterpart of Lady-comp developed six years ago, claims the inventor.
The machine indicates safer time for having sex without the fear of getting
pregnant by using traffic light signals. Red means unprotected sex is a
definite no, yellow means there's a chance you might get pregnant and green
means it's safe.
Unlike Persona which flopped when it was discovered that a large number of
those who used it did conceive and went on to have abortions, Lady -Comp has
recorded 99.3 percent success on green-light days.
"We've been careful and developed the machine to err on the side of caution on
days when it might appear to be all right to have unprotected sex," Rechberg
was quoted as saying.
"On days when the computer says sex is OK, it is as good as the Pill and you
can't get better than that," he added.
