Teacher held over paid underage sex

Kyodo - A 48-year-old teacher at Sapporo Minami High School was arrested
Tuesday on suspicion of violating the child prostitution law, Hokkaido police
said. The suspect was identified as Akira Matsuda, who supervises the school's
baseball team.
Police said Matsuda engaged in obscene acts with a 17-year-old high school girl
in a car in the city of Kita-hiroshima, Hokkaido, on Nov. 16.
He came to know the girl through a telephone dating service and promised to pay
her 20,000 yen, police said. But he only paid her 5,000 yen, they said.
Her father discovered what had happened when he later found Matsuda's phone
number registered on his daughter's mobile phone and reported the incident to
police in February, they said.
Matsuda was quoted as telling police that he was not aware the girl was a
minor.
