Village councilor busted over child prostitution

Maebashi - A 51-year-old village council member in Kawaba, Gunma Prefecture,
was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of violating child prostitution laws,
police said.
Investigators accuse the council member of engaging in sexual activity with a
17-year-old second-year high school girl at a hotel in Shibukawa, Gunma
Prefecture, on the evening of Jan. 27 after promising to pay her 30,000 yen.
The councilor has basically admitted to the allegations against him,
investigators said.
He was reportedly introduced to the 17-year-old by a 27-year-old female
drinking acquaintance who told him, "I've got a good companion for you."
His actions were exposed by another "companion" employed by the 27-year-old
woman.
