Fang Shuai, 27, a Jiangsu Province native, was also ordered by the Putuo
District People's Court in Shanghai to return the 3,500-yuan (US$491) demand
paid by the victim.
Fang, a migrant worker used to be hired by a private decoration team, went to
his employer's home on November 1 last year to demand payment. He did not find
his boss at home but noticed that the apartment was not protected by security
doors. He prised the lock on the door open and broke in, stealing a camera.
Fang checked the camera that night and found nude pictures of his employer and
the boss' girlfriend and a video recording them having sex. Fang kept the
memory card and sold the camera for 250 yuan.
The money from the camera did not last long - Fang lost it all in poker
machines and he began thinking of other ways to get cash.
He wrote a letter threatening to publish the pictures and video and put it
under his employer's door.
His boss, surnamed Yang, had not noticed his camera was missing until then.
Yang reported the matter to the police and also called Fang on his mobile
phone.
Fang demanded 100,000 yuan at first but after bargaining, Yang agreed to pay
3,500 yuan.
After Fang received the money he did not return the memory card. He turned his
mobile phone off and went back to playing the poker machines.
It took a while, but the police finally caught up with Fang.
