Mu Mu: China's nude breed of blogger

One of China's hottest blogs belongs to Mu Mu (who gives a whole new meaning to the tent-like dress some wear to watch soap operas and bon-bons), and who writes about everything, always posting a picture with only her body exposed. The China Daily News recently quoted her, "After watching my body, if I expose my face to you then the only thing left will be emotion."

And there is good reason to take a better look at why.

Before Mu Mu was Muzi Mei and a "Sister Lotus" who both wrote about having more sexual encounters than one might expect from the Pacific Fleet docked off Hong Kong.

Mu Mu's blog draws some 10,000 visitors a day - far more than either of her predecessors.

Surprisingly, her confessional blogs are still comparatively rare in China due to censorship. The Chinese love to tease Americans with a myth about western culture: "Chinese don't talk about sex, but do it. Americans don't do it, but love to talk about it."

Typical of Cantonese skepticism, critics are saying she does not show her face because it looks like 10 Kilometers of bad Chinese roads and who could begin to look a girl adoring in the face and say "Mu Mu" ("wood, wood" in English) without eventually falling out? But, some would argue, who would be looking at her face?

In a cultural and political environment that disdains sexual expression - and even occasionally criminally punishes it - it is endearing to see someone like Mu Mu bringing 'power to the people' in Communist China.

Yet one must hope that Mu Mu desire to express herself does not land her on the worng side of the authorities in what remains a prudish China.
