Police tackle prostitution
July 21, 2004
Guangzhou police had launched a two-month campaign to curb the practice of
distributing porn cards for prostitution with 193 people taken in for
investigation, police said Monday.
Eleven rings were broken up, two prostitution organizers were arrested, eight
procurers were detained for criminal investigation and 79 prostitutes had been
dealt with, police said.
Twenty people distributing porn cards were given police warnings.
In early June, police found porn cards bearing phone numbers being distributed
on the streets. After investigations, police traced the cards to a parlor in
Liwan District. On the evening of June 11, police raided the parlor, taking
away 30 people involved in prostitution.
Promoting prostitution by distributing porn cards affected social order and was
always accompanied by robberies using prostitutes for seduction, police said.
They said the campaign, which began May 15, would continue.
