Rabiyyat Aslanova termed the measure as an important in terms of protecting
human rights.
Special rehabilitation centers will be set up in Azerbaijan for people affected
by human trafficking. Their work will be overseen by the national coordinator,
she said.
Aslanova continued that relevant supplements will be made to the Criminal Code
and the country's laws to ensure that individuals committing such crimes are
brought to justice.
The MP said that 161 people have been held criminally accountable for human
trafficking over the past year. The number of people affected by such crimes
has reached 283, including 270 Azerbaijani citizens.
There were some allegations earlier linking foreign citizens to human
trafficking offenses due to irregularities in the process of adopting children.
The recently passed law is believed to deal with illegularities.
